I unchecked the embedding option (File > Options > Save> Embed fonts in the file) in my presentation to clear out the old embedded fonts and saved the presentation and closed PowerPoint. Still on my PC, I uninstalled the original versions of the fonts and reinstalled my new versions. I did a binary comparison of the original font files to the new ones, and only a few bits at the beginning changed, so I believe only the header was modified and the font data was untouched.
